There not many things better in this life than a good vacation. I don’t know about you, but I look forward to mine every year. I love sitting down and deciding exactly where to go, picking out cool things to do and see, and generally planning the trip.

I’m not one of those people that just goes to the normal vacation spots like Disney World or on a cruise or something. No, for me a vacation has to be something a little out of the ordinary. I’m looking for something interesting and fun that I can talk about around the water cooler without boring people to sleep!

If you’re like me, then you’ve come to the right place because today I’m going to talk about one of my favorite vacation destination that I think you’ll love as much as I do.

I’m talking about the Calgary Stampede.

Sure Pamplona has it’s running of the Bulls…but here in North America we have our own version, well, the Canadians have their own version…sort of.

Basically it’s what I would describe as the worlds biggest rodeo. Thing wild west and you won’t be far off.

It’s located, like I said, in Canada…more specifically in the territory of Alberta. The main cities there are Calgary and Edmonton, and both and pretty friendly places (is there any place in Canada that ISN’T friendly?).

Alberta is a vast prairie land. Montana is pretty much directly below it, so that should give you an idea just where exactly this place is, and what kind of place it is. Like Montana, Alberta is the home of vast ranches for the raising of cattle.

It’s where the movie Brokeback Mountain was filmed, but we won’t hold that against them!

What can you expect to find at the Calgary Stampede? Well, think western movies. People dress up like cowboys and it’s a pretty raucous affair. There’s all kinds of stuff to do, imagine a huge country fair and you’ll have a pretty good idea of the type of things you can do.

But unlike a country fair, this event is huge. There’s even a casino if you get tired of the cowboy theme. There’s a rodeo, bucking bronco rides, dancers, clowns, bands, and even a chuck wagon race!

This entire thing just screams children friendly. If you’ve got kids, can you imagine a more fun time?? It’s like stepping back in time to the days of the wild west…without all the gunfights. I highly recommend you check it out, you won’t be sorry!
